About R-Tight Panels

D. Installation materials: splines, fasteners, expanding foam sealer, and all that. We’ll include these items in your panel order! When you buy R-Tight panels, you’ve invested in the world’s best stress-skin panels. We want to protect your investment, and save you time, by shipping you the right splines for your job, the correct number of different nails for your job, and high-quality expanding foam sealer for you to foam your panels. When we supply your installation materials, you won’t be slowed down by not having a box of this, or a can of that at your job site.

Splines. Splines connect the edges of your panels to each other. Splines are usually 2-7/8" wide strips of plywood 8’ long. You use #8 ring-shank nails through the OSB outside and drywall screws through the drywall side of your curtainwall panels to secure the splines into the channels in your panels.

Fasteners. Usually we recommend large pole barn or Ardox nails to attach panels to your frame. The length of your nails will depend on the thickness of your stress-skin panels, as well as the wood species used for your frame. Hardwoods, like oak, don’t require nails as long as softwoods like pine, Douglas fir, or hemlock, but they do need to be larger diameter. We can also supply you with screws if you wish. Screws are more expensive, but are sometimes the method of choice.

Expanding foam sealer. We also ship cases or individual cans of expanding foam sealer. You spray expanding foam sealer into the foam channel on your panel edges to ensure an airtight seal between panels.
