Stress Skin Panels for Timber Frame and Structural Insulated Panel Homes.
PANEL INSTALLATION GUIDE TOC > TOOLS OF THE TRADE > CRANE

Tools of the Trade

A. Crane/hoist. You need either a crane or forklift to unload panels from the truck at your site. Sometimes we can ship with a ‘crane truck,’ and use this to unload your panels. It will typically take 1-3 hours to unload, organize and place your panel bundles on stickers at your site.

You also need a crane to ‘fly in’ your roof panels once you trim these to final size. It is possible, but difficult to place roof panels by hand using winches or pulleys. We strongly recommend you use a crane for this! An experienced crew can panel an average-sized roof with about 6-10 hours crane time. To achieve this efficiency, you’ll need to pre-cut (see Figure 10a) and pre-nail (see Figure 10b) your roof panels.

You’ll place most wall panels by hand. Sometimes you’ll need a crane - for example
on a steeply sloping site, or to panel your second or third floor.
