How to Work with Wall Panels

Now, let’s get you started . . .

Important: Study your panel layout diagrams carefully!

Often you’ll start at a corner of your frame. Cut your first panel to length using a circular saw or beam-cutter saw.

If you’re starting to panel at an eaves side of your frame, either your wall or your roof panels need to be beveled to accommodate your roof angle (see Figures 9, 10a).

On your eaves sides, the roof panels will overlap your wall panels (see Figure 9). Make sure you cut your panels a little short to leave a ¼" gap at the top for expanding foam sealer insulation. If you’re starting at a gable end, we recommend your wall panels extend up past your roof panels. Also, don’t extend your first panel to the very edge of your frame. Keep it about 1/4" shy of your corner posts - to allow for expanding foam sealer.

If you need more than one course of panels to reach the roof, be sure you leave a 1/4" gap between the ends of the panels, for expanding foam sealer.

Important: You can use small wood blocks to space the ends of panels that don’t have an expanding foam sealer channel. We ship R-Tight panels with 1/2" x 2" x 6" OSB spacers in the spline grooves under the plastic bands. Save these (8 per bundle) and use as spacers! Remove all spacers before you foam!
