How to Work with Wall Panels
Drill & pre-nail your panels! Choose the
correct nails, pre-drill holes, then drive nails in 8" on center
along the ends of your panels and wherever your panels cross a timber.
Important: If you pre-drill
3/16" diameter holes for your nails it will make driving them
through the OSB much easier!
Keep your nails about 1-1/2" to 2" in from
the edges of your panels. Pre-nail by driving the nails through
the outside OSB and foam, and stop just shy of the inside OSB or
drywall (if youre using curtainwall panels). See Figure
10b.

Lift your wall panel up onto the 2" x 12"
pressure-treated ledge (see Figure
3), situate the panel where it belongs, and leave the 1/4"
gap at the edge of the corner post. Tilt the panel up on a corner,
and put a bead of expanding foam sealer along the bottom edge to
seal with the pressure-treated ledge. Lower the panel to its final
position and drive in your nails. Wherever your panels cross a structural
member of your frame - for example a second floor carrier, use additional
nails 8" on center.
Important: Measure, use a
chalk line, and be very careful that your nails enter your timberframe
in the middle of the timbers, so you dont miss and come through
the edge, and ruin a beautiful timber!
