How to Install your Roof Panels
Pre-nailing your roof panels. Its very
important to pre-nail roof panels before you lift these to the roof.
Make certain of your nail spacing, and angle your nails toward the
center of the rafter or purlin they will nail into. Study Figure
10b. If you dont follow these instructions carefully,
you will probably miss the rafter or purlin, come out through its
side with the nail, and damage your frame. This can turn a beautiful
timberframe into a mess!
How to get panels up to your roof. The best
way to get panels up to your roof is with a crane. It is possible
to use pulleys and a rope, but this is time consuming, dangerous,
and you could damage your panels. The best way to hook up panels
is with panel hooks made especially for this purpose. In addition,
you should tie a light rope to one end of your panel so a ground
person can control the pitch and orientation of the panel as the
crane lifts it into position on your roof (see Figure 19).
Important: Caution! Panels
can come unhitched and fall from the crane! Falling panels can injure
or kill you! People on the ground should stand well away from the
panel as it moves overhead!
